Have you ever tried journaling before? For some people, it’s a great way to revisit the best parts of their day. For some, it’s about feeling grateful for the things that they have. For others, it’s a great way that you can learn how to relieve stress. After all, your journal lets you express yourself as freely as you want.
The Steps to Follow
It’s actually quite easy to get started with journaling. After all, it’s all about you and what you’re going through at the moment. You don’t need to worry about anyone else, or what they might think or say. Instead, you get to just dump out all of the things that you want to say.
Step 1: Choose a Journal
The first step in the process is to find something that you’re going to use as a journal. It doesn’t have to be anything special. It could be a notebook or a file on your computer. For this purpose, a journal that doesn’t connect to the internet is generally the best idea rather than a journaling site.
Step 2: Dedicate 5-10 Minutes a Day
Set aside a specific period of time every night that you can write out what you’re feeling or thinking about that day. You need to make sure this time is scheduled in or you may find yourself skipping over it when it comes to planning other parts of your day.
Step 3: Do a Brain-Dump
Maybe you have a lot of good things to write about but maybe something happened that just stressed you out. Whatever you’re thinking or whatever you’re feeling, this is the time to just write it out. It doesn’t have to look a certain way and no one else needs to be able to read it. Just get everything out there.
Step 4: Keep Writing Until It’s Gone
Keep writing more and more until you feel like you’ve gotten everything out there. You should feel like you can finally relax or breathe again once you get everything out. Not to mention you’re going to have a chance to look over those things that stressed you out and decide what you’re going to do with them.
Step 5: Put it Away
When you’ve written everything down and you’re feeling rested and relaxed this is a good time for you to put things away and get on with your day. You can revisit what you wrote at a later time to try and make a plan. For now, just relax and revel in the fact that you’re feeling a whole lot better and less stressed now.
No matter what you are trying to work through, if you need to know how to relieve stress it starts with these 5 steps. Journaling is a great way to make yourself feel better, and to make sure that you’re not burying the thoughts and feelings that you have. Use your own favorite journal and just get it all down on paper so you can start moving forward.
