A lot of people struggle because this habit becomes so ingrained in us that we just don’t know any other way to be. Many people aren’t able to stop procrastinating because the task they’re trying to complete feels boring to them. If you feel like it’s something that’s too simple or something that you just don’t want to do, it tends to make you less likely to overcome that procrastination mindset and actually accomplish anything. After all, we all want to be having a good time and enjoying our lives, right? And that doesn’t happen when you’re bored. So, we push things that bore us off to tomorrow. Whether it’s going to the bank or working on that big project for the boss that’s due in no time at all.
When a task just seems like it takes too much time or too much effort, it can be frustrating. If it requires you to interact with people you don’t care for that can be frustrating as well. In general, any task that we deem frustrating is one that we’re not really going to want to do, right? It’s a task that you’re not likely to have motivation for and that means you’re not very likely to stop procrastinating when it comes to getting that task done, whatever it may be. That applies to anything from filling out the forms for our children to go to preschool to getting through the math on that paper for school.
A task that’s considered difficult is going to be another one that you’re not going to want to do. You might feel like you’re not going to be able to complete it anyway so why try. Or maybe you feel like the task is going to be too complicated to learn or will take too much time to learn. All of these things go along with the task being difficult and that can make it unlikely that you’ll want to put forth the effort to accomplish it. Maybe it’s something small, like figuring out parallel parking, or maybe it’s something complicated, like solving a major technological problem.
When it comes to how to stop procrastinating, it can be a whole lot more complicated than you might think. After all, you know that you should stop procrastinating. You may even be trying to stop procrastinating, but you just don’t know how to do it. The truth is, most people don’t really know how to do it and that’s okay, as long as you keep on trying. After all, you don’t want to go through your entire life not being able to complete the tasks you need to get done in life.
